About Simon
Internationally renowned saxophonist and Professor of Saxophone for the Royal Marines, Simon Bates is known and respected for his stylistic versatility and instrumental prowess. He is in great demand on the London session scene and is a regular member of Simply Swing. His playing features on countless adverts, film scores, television shows, theme tunes and pop recordings. Simon has worked with a wide variety of bands and musicians including Elvis Costello, Jamie Cullum, Dizzee Rascal, Shane MacGowan, Lulu, Rick Wakeman, D:Ream, Chaka Khan, Emma Bunton, Seal and Carleen Anderson. He was Musical Director for Rick Astley, Bette Midler and TV show Johnny Vaughan Tonight amongst many others and appears regularly on Paul O'Grady Live. He has performed around the world in a wide variety of settings from the O2 Arena and Eiffel Tower to Ronnie Scott’s and the Albert Hall; and as a guest soloist with many large ensembles including the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Simon Bates is a Yamaha Custom Saxophone Artist.
